Awful Tornado in Alabama Leaves Heartbreak- My Thoughts
Leaving 15 people dead, the tornado of Tuscaloosa was very devastating! The article I read stated that a man named Blume had been pulled out of the rumble by a drug dealer. Yet another persons story I found interesting was a lady named Lenora Bolden who saw the "tornado from her front porch while cuddled up with her husband and daughter."
My heart really goes out to the families of the loved ones who died in this terrible natural disaster. I am also sad for the peoples houses who were destroyed by the tornado.

Japans Nuclear Issue
I think the nuclear issue in Japan is really sad because it caused a lot of citizens in Japan to loose their jobs. Fortunately the prime minister warned the power plant of the danger before anyone got hurt.
This article informed me that NISA "spent about 30 minutes in the building measuring radiation levels."That fact really surprised me and showed me how serious this issue must have been. I hope the people of Japan resolve their problems soon and no one gets hurt in the process.

Peter Pan
1. The conflict in this story occured when Tink began to die because children didn't beilieve in fairies.
2. My favorite charachter in this book is Peter because he is funny. A quote from the story that shows this is, "What do you mean Wendy, what is a mom?" Peter is static,, protagonist, and major.
3.An intresting authors secret I noticed in this book was that she mixes up her sentence. For example she doesn't just use simple sentences, she uses compound and complex to.
4. A new word I learned in this weeks reading is scurvy. Scurvy means to have poor poisture. One way this word could be used is : In a Orchestra convert nevery have scurvy posture. Scurvy is an ajective.
5.This is a book I would use for a book comercial because it is just right and funny.

Twitter turns 5, goes from 0 to 140 million tweets a day
Happy birthday twitter! This article has informed me of so many interesting facts about this quick growing communication site not to mention ideas. Five years ago cofounder Jack Dorsey posted the very first twitter tweet. This new experiment was called microblogging and asked that you have no more than 140 characters. Believe it or not Twitter has over 200 million users which began to grow in 2007. Twitter has an average of around 140 million tweets a day or 1,600 each second including numerous celebrities who are members as well.
Thanks to glitches in the Twitter site during the expansion project twitter has a new mascot, the fail whale. Even though it isn't the most pleasant time when viewers see this now famous creature of the sea it is sure to put a smile on their face at the least.
I am so happy for Twitter who is clearly doing well in not only their expansion project but daily tweeting as well!
Keep up the good work,

A crooked kind of perfect By: Linda Urban
1. The conflict in this realistic fiction book starts with Zoe having big musical dreams but ends with her ending up with a "not-so-perfectone D-60." One of the many bad things about this rip off of an instrument is that it isn't a glossy baby grand piano instead it is a wood-grained wheeze bag organ.
2. My favorite character in this book just happens to be the main character as well, Zoe Elias who was a protagonist and static and major.Zoe in my eyes was determined because even when her teacher told her she wasn't good enough she didn't let it knock her down.Zoe pushed on with her musical dreams and places in a Perform-O-Rama organ competion. A quote from this book that proves her determination which is actually commonly said ," when life gives you a Perfectone D-60 you make music!"
3. An interesting authors secret in this book was that she was funny! This is the quickest read I believe I have ever gone through simply because I couldn't bare to put it down!
4. A new word I learned in this weeks reading was resplendent which is an adjective meaning shining brightly.
5. This book is a book I would have the best time doing a book commercial on because I love sharing a good read with friends and this definitely was one!

As jaguars disappear, experts look for survivors
From this article I learned that jaguars actually live here in the U.S, yet are few , therefore are rarely ever seen. Fortunately jaguars still occupy 45 percent of their original range.Even though this sounds great the numbers are dropping over the years and in some places such as Uruguay and El Salvador they have lost the jaguars all together.
After reading this article I must admit I was puzzled why any human would want to harm these "majestic cats," but after more consideration I realized when I see a spider in my house I see it as a threat so I am one to talk. This made me understand a little better why if a feline half my height randomly crossed someones path it might alarm them. Protecting your life is one thing but money is not! Imagine if you were a jaguar poacher, would you ever ponder on the fact that your grandchildren may never get to see a jaguar if this misunderstandment doesn't cease? Does it bother you? Well it does me, and I believe any human with a soul and in their right mind can find some sympathy for these potentially extinct animals.
After watching a movie called the Princess Protection Program it got me thinking, why don't we have a jaguar protection program , but that's just it! We do created by Panamanian biologist Ricardo Moreno is an organization called Yaguará. Yaguará aims to study and protect jaguars in Costa Rica and Panama.
Unfortunately today I did not invent a new idea but I did get a new perspective on jaguars!

The Sea Of Monsters By: Rick Rordan
1. The conflict in this fantasy book took place when Annabeth saves Percy by stabbing the last Laistrygonian from behind and takes Percy and Tyson back to Camp Half-Blood. They find the camp under attack because Thalia's tree, which protects the camp, has been poisoned by an unknown intruder.
2. My favorite character in this book was also one of the main characters, Annabeth. Annabeth is a protagonist aswell as static and major. Annabeth is tough especially for a girl. A quote from the book that shows me this is, "When we got mad we tended to cause promblems ... like World War II, for instance."
3.An interesting authors secret in this book that really stuck out in my mind was how he used extremly vivid words that not only made the story come alive and really pop out but also made you actually enjoy reading it.
4. A new word I learned in this weeks reading was valedictory which is an adjective meaning expressing a farwell.
5.This is a book I would do for a book comerical because it was a just right book for me and most students in my grade level.

My Writting Dear Diary 3-9-11
Halle-Kate Wheeler
Dear Diary, 8:42 A.M September 1, 79
“C’mon Alabella your going to be late for school!” my mom screamed at me in an uneasy voice. I had been up so late the night before studying for the Science test today and now I feel as if I am lugging around a boulder on my back from the exhaustion.
Dear Diary, 9:50 A.M September 1,79
After I had marched off the bus something didn’t seem right……My eyes were watering yet, it isn’t allergy season and even more as I look to my left the sky looks like black paint is blanketing it. I have no explanation.
I thrust open the heavy entrance doors to the schools long busy hallway. During Science, after the test my teacher Mr. Wilson was teaching us about our new topic for the semester, volcanoes. I learned that they are very destructive and unfortunately they rob innocent people of their lives. In the middle of his lesson…..
Dear Diary, 12:45 P.M September 2, 79
I’m sorry I left without finishing my story yesterday. For no apparent reason the lights turned off and it was too dark to finish but now I’ve got something better to tell you.
School has been postponed for every student here in Pompeii today. The funny thing is though it’s a beautiful day…even though the skies look like they did yesterday, no worst.
My parents are in the living room watching the news when they call me out there,” Alabella , come here quickly please.” My mom proclaims. Mom hastily spits out each word she has to say and before I knew it she had finished. I do recall her saying something about a volcano, yes a volcano that is what it was.... I believe her words were " Fox Five News has issued an evacuation for all citizens surrounding the area of Pompeii. "
What does this mean, an evacuation? Where are we going to go? But before I had the chance to really wrap my head around any of it mom was coaxing me out the door and into the car.
Dear Diary, 1:13 P.M September 2, 79
We are in the car and honestly I've never seen mom drive this fast. I swear she was going at least 90 miles an hour with absolutely no clue what so ever of where she might be going. Everyone was silent and just when the cars brakes stop squeaking for a mere second you could almost hear a faint sound coming from nearby. Am i crazy? Could I be hearing things..Its beginning to get louder as mom speeds ahead. Yet, I do not know what lies ahead of me, no one does, but what I do know is in the book of life the answers aren't in the back.
Dear Diary, 1:24 P.M September 2, 79
What I made myself think might not be so bad turned out to be worse; correction it's my worst nightmare! Looking forward I see a dead end in the road but not only that, I saw it..... I saw Mt. Vestevious. It is trembling more and more each second, and now the ground is starting to follow in it's footsteps... EARTHQUAKE!
Considering how fast mom drove over here it feels like she is now going double. I'm scared not only for my life but for my families and if I don't make it out of here tonight please know I died trying.
I turned around about as far as I could with my seat belt on and looked out the back window in curiosity to see a plume of ash shooting from the volcano signaling this was the end...There was no way this little mini van could out run that monster.

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid by: Jeff Kinney
1. The conflict in this realistic fiction book took place when Rowly, Gregs best friend, ivited him to his pool over the summer. The two lounged in the sun drinking smoothies by the dozen. When the waiter brung the check they put rowleys dads credit card number unaware that someone actually had to pay. When the check makes its way over to the parents the boys have to find someway to pay off the bill.
2. My favorite character in this book just so happened to be the main character as well, Greg Heffley. He was a protagonist and static and major. Greg was a good problem solver. I believe this because in some of the situations throughout this book Greg was wove into he so many situations yet, somehow found a creative way to get out of it. A quote from the book that shows this quality is "Me and Rowley realized we were gonna have to do this a different way, and make our OWN ads."
3. A cool authors secret I noticed while reading this book was how he finds a funny angle from every story. I remember reading this story laughing more than I ever have in any other book. This characteristic draws the reader in and makes them feel like it would be impossible to put the book down.
4. A new word I learned in this weeks reading is sonata which is a noun meaning a composition for one or two instruments, typically of three or four movements in contrasting forms and keys.
5. I do believe this is a book that I would use for a book commercial in the future because it was really fun to read and I'm sure it would be even funner to share it with my peers.

Honey bee collapse threatens global food security
This is a debate that has been discussed for years , and introduced by Einstein, but not ever considered in as much depth as it has in the past couple years. As the article states "Almost a third of global farm output depends on animal pollination, largely by honey bees." The food that honey bees help provide is rich with minerals ,vitamins ,and anti-oxidants and are substantual to our food pyramid, yet the honey bees are dying rapidly....What we will do without them? That is a good question that scientists around the world have been scratching their heads over for quite a while now but in a nutshell here's my theory.........
I believe since honey bees are so crutial to not only the U.S ,but the entire globe we should treat them as the endangered animals they really are. We could set up laws and regulations protecting the honey bee making sure there is a fine for the ones killed. These fines would pay for a place were specalists could breed them so slowly but surely increase the population baby steps at a time.

what do you think? 2-1-11 Toddlers&Tiaras
Do you think the attention the show brings to toddler beauty pageants is good for encouraging debate?
Yes I do believe that the attention the show brings to toddler beauty pageants is great for encouraging debate because I think it brought the attention to mainstream America of the debacle that is beauty pageants for some children that cant even walk yet being paraded around like a dog show purely for the satisfaction their owners or in this case their parents.I also believe that especially with the mothers some are trying to relive their lives through their kids by putting them in something they loved as a child , and hoping their kids will too ,but honestly the saddest thing to me is the measures the children's parents will take to ensure themselves that their kid WILL win. Just a mear list of these measures include spray tanning them, waxing their eyebrows ,and even over-doing the make-up these aren't things they asked for of course since the younger contestants cannot talk but something thrown in by the parents. I think a lot of parents foul themselves into thinking the end justifies the means by telling themselves that being in the spotlight will give their child strong leadership skills ,but my opinion is that they are ingraining a prima dona syndrome and filling the future generation with needy attention hogging girls with hair extensions and fake tans but time will tell.

Mystery Disease Part 2
Dear Doctor Billman,
Ecoli is a very severe extremly contagous illness especially in the elderly and young. The recent reports of E. coli cases among children in North Carolina, possibly caused by a petting zoo at the State Fair, has raised awareness of this serious illness. My staff at the Barrow County Health Department is working diligently to prepare a diagnosis on this sudden outbreak. They believe that the reason for this is because of the contact the Tompson family has had with the goats. Susie and Charlies dad had jugded the goat show and Charlie had tooken care of them. While taking care of them he could have easily gotten a strand of E.coli on his hands which remeber is very contageous. Also when Susie was away at camp while the fair was going on she brought back a bag of candy for her younger brother, Charlie. He didn't accept the entire bag instead they spilt them picking colors one by one. Since this diesease is highly contagous sharing that bag of candy could have spread it from Charlie to Susie. As for David, and Donna Jones there is a slightly different diagnoses. In the interview it said that David often helps his friend, Allen, with his daily chore of tending the calves he could have also gotten the strand of E.coli on his hands while tending the calves like Charlie and passed it on to his sister.
Ways to Prevent E.coli
The staff at the Barrow County Health Department has came up with a quick and easy list of how to prevent your family and you from getting this disease. Cook all ground beef and hamburger thoroughly. Because ground beef can turn brown before disease-causing bacteria are killed, use a digital instant-read meat thermometer to ensure thorough cooking. Also make sure to wash hands, counters, and utensils with hot soapy water after they touch raw meat. If at all possible try to stear clear of unpasturized milk and drink only pasteurized milk. Drink water from safe sources, like municipal water that has been treated with chlorine or bottled water, and above all else make sure your informed and aware of this so that you are not caught off gaurd.
Interview questions
1. When did you begin feeling sick?
2. Have you been swimming lately?
3. Do you normally drink pasturized milk?
4. Have you resently had groundbeef?
5. In the past week have you been in contact with any dairy animals?

Reading Log 1-24-11
Because Of Winn Dixe by: Kate Dicamillo
1. The conflict in this realistic fiction book took place when ten year old Opal moved to Naomi, Florida with her preacher father. Her dad sent her to the Winn Dixie market and on the way she finds a large, ugly homeless dog. This dog got her in more trouble than she had ever imagined but it shortly became her best friend.
2. My favorite character in this book was also the main character, Opal who was a protagonist and static and major. Opal was good at making friends for she many; a few were Otis, an ex- convict who runs a local pet store; Miss Fanny, the librarian who has a desk full of " Litmus Lozenges" a type of candy which her great grandfather invented; and Gloria Dump. A quote from the book that made me realize that she good at making friends was..." Opal; you have been a better friend to me than I believe anyone ever has...."
3.An interesting authors secret in this book was how she made it into a true classic in my mind. What I mean by that is some people may believe that this book I read was to young for my reading level but honestly it had the best inspiring background story and all in all it was a really fun read.
4. A new word I learned in this weeks reading was abjure which is a transitive verb and meaning to make legally void.
5. This book is for sure a book I would do for one of my book commercials because I enjoyed reading it so much I would love to share with my classmates so they to can enjoy reading it as well.

Are Illegal Immigrants Good For The Economy
In my opinion illegal immigrants are BAD for the economy; here are some reasons why....................
1. Almost 60 percent of adult illegal immigrants lack a high school education(that's more than nine times the rate among native born Americans); this leads to many inexperienced, low-skill , workers being employed in some cases preventing american citizens from being employed.
2. 1/2 of Mexican immigrant families use AT LEAST one welfare program.
3. This means big cost for taxpayers. Workers with little education don't earn much money, so they pay little in taxes and use a lot of government services.
4. Illegal immigration also reduces the wages of unskilled Americans.
What worked for our country 100 years ago no longer does. Cutting illegal immigration level is vital to ensure Americas economic prosperity in the future, and for these reasons this is why I believe illegal immigrants are BAD for the economy.

The tragic death of Phoebe Prince demonstrates the terrible impact of bullying. I believe bullies should be treated as criminals because in the eyes of Phoebe and her mourning family that is a statement that is light on the crime and harm done. One of the many sad things about bullying is...............
1) It ruins inocccent kids' lives by not only harrasing them physically but mentally aswell.
2) It plagues them with an unnessicary sense of shame that guards them from expressing themselves and feeling like they fit in.
3) They cannot escape it, in Phoebes case she was not only harrased during school but after hours aswell.
4) Bullying is scary if you are the victim, I can't ponder the thought of having to go to sleep ready for school the next day but knowing I'm only in for yet another sticky situtation!
Bullying is serious and is deffinitally not a pitty thing we can hold off any longer. I hope you agree with me that after reading this article you too agree that BULLIES ARE CRIMINALS!!!

My opinion on School Lunches
The article I read states that "Chefs across the country are on a mission to make school lunch nutritious and delicious." This all sounds great but with it comes a couple down sides one is "It won't be easy for chefs to put school lunch on a healthier path." This is because the normal school lunches are often processed and packaged with preservatives, fat and salt making them quick and easy to prepare. They also use those foods because......Two they are less expensive therefore it will be more expensive to make this change. Hunger-Free Kids Act, which calls for larger servings of fruits, vegetables and whole grains in school meals will play a large part with this expense problem sky rocketing through the roof. Three parents of the children will not be happy with the increase of money on their child's daily lunch. There are possibilities that if the parents do decide that this is to much to pay more and more students may end up taking their lunch instead of buying. If this continued it could become a major loss! Therefore I believe that we should keep our current school lunches the way they are.
